Filipino-related pilgrimage sites in Rome.

SUGGESTION: enter St. Peter’s 8 a.m. to avoid long security line, and possibly go to Confession and Mass. Follow the next steps, walking all the way to Santa Pudenziana (total of 1.5 hours walk, plus visiting time, for the 5 sites so far).

Then take the metro from Repubblica station to Cornelia station, a 25-minute ride. Walk 10 minutes to Guadalupe, and another 2 minutes to Collegio).

  1. St. Peter’s Basilica (Vatican) – Mosaics of San Lorenzo Ruiz (to the left of the Altar of St. Joseph) and San Pedro Calungsod (Grottos, at the entrance to the Hungarian Chapel).
  2. St. Anne’s Church (Vatican) – statue of Santo Niño (Jesus at church dedicated to his grandmother).
  3. Santa Maria sopra Minerva (Piazza della Minerva 42) – on the right side of this church is a chapel with artworks depicting the life of St. Rose of Lima, Secondary Patroness of the Philippines with Santa Pudenziana.
  4. Immaculate Conception (column at Piazza Spagna) – Patroness of the Philippines.
  5. Basilica of Saint Pudentiana (Via Urbana, 160, behind St. Mary Majors) – Secondary Patroness of the Philippines with St. Rose of Lima.
  6. Our Lady of Guadalupe (Via Aurelia 675) – Emperatriz de las Américas y de las Islas Filipinas (Empress of the Americas and the Philippine Islands).
  7. Pontificio Collegio Filippino (Via Aurelia 490) – Chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage (Our Lady of Antipolo). Lobby with images of the Virgen sang Barangay and the Filipino Cardinals. The Crypt with images from the Philippines of the Santo Niño and St. Joseph, and a Filipino altarpiece by Willy Layug of Betis, Pampanga, depicting the martyrdom of San Lorenzo Ruiz and San Pedro Calungsod.
