Live Stream

The Collegio streams some activities, especially Masses and other prayers, to its FaceBook Page (fb.com/Collegio) and YouTube Channel.

Schedules may be found in fb.com/collegio/events.

Collegio Setup Scope

  • The Collegio uses the minimum setup possible, as we do not have a full blown media office, but only depend on the availability of a few volunteer priests and Siters extremely busy with their studies and other tasks.
  • With just a smartphone, wifi, tripod and simple external microphone, we simulcast to FB and YouTube with titles, graphics, saved videos as PIP or standalone, background music, etc.
  • This simple setup can easily be replicated by any of our priests on his own, without an assistant, bulky external cameras, or a fast laptop for mixing — for use now in Rome, or later when assigned to remote areas with no access to state of the art equipment.
  • Our goal is not really to cover an event (like a concert, with different camera angles, zooming on personalities, capturing the crowd, special effects, continuous commentaries, etc.), but to invite people to pray with us. So far we have managed to reach millions.

Partnerships

  1. Other FB Pages are invited to partner with us to serve a wider audience in the Church’s pastoral endeavors.
  2. Partners may use these feeds (through a Watch Party, Share, etc.) and even add their own logos and titles, but maintaining the Collegio’s logo and captions as a way of acknowledging Collegio as source. In some cases the Collegio may include information and appeals for support.
  3. For Facebook crossposting, please contact us.
  4. Partners may look for and encourage other FB Pages to do the same: private, government or religious organizations in the Philippines or abroad, such as Dioceses, Parishes, Lay Groups, media, schools, non-religious organizations, civic groups, etc.

Summary for Collegio Live Stream Operators

  1. Reset wifi (switch off 1 minute, then on again) before each livestream.
  2. Open CameraFi. Put graphics and/or text as needed. Press the red “On” button to start. At the end of the event, ending CameraFi will also end FB and YouTube transmission.
  3. Double check and start transmission 10 minutes before each activity:
    • Make sure whole stretch of audio cable is far from network and all other cables and equipment as much as possible.
    • Main Chapel amplifier mic levels at 9:00 (all, except those unused, set to 0), and Master Volume level at 2 o’clock.
    • While monitoring FB or YouTube: tap the external microphone to make sure audio is from there (also monitor CameraFi’s audio indicator)
    • If no audio, CameraFi microphone might be off, perhaps because the external mic is not well connected; slide CameraFi from left, then make sure Audio 1 is on
  4. Double check for longer special events:
    • Battery level: attach a power bank to the smartphone the whole time (do not use charger attached to a power outlet, as it produces a humming sound)
    • to save on battery: lower smartphone display brightness, and turn off bluetooth, NFC, location, etc.
    • A Collegio video may be prepared in CameraFi before the event (even as PIP and without audio) or after (as full video).
  5. Always power off the phone after use to reset wifi connection, apps, etc.

Our Checklist for Facebook and YouTube (with CameraFi and Castr.io)

  1. Smartphone on a tripod
  2. Internet connection: wifi, mobile data or network line to smartphone (using adaptor)
  3. Sound system
    • connect a wired microphone to the smartphone; the smartphone’s headset will do, but use mic extension wires as needed
    • the microphone may pick up audio directly from the celebrant, reader or crowd; it may also be placed directly in front (as close as possible) of a good speaker connected to an amplifier, or karaoke
    • two or three mics may be connected using splitters
    • note that the jack inserted into an Android smartphone is usually with three lines/four contacts, also called TRRS, while plain computer microphones only have one line/two contacts, also called TS – just use the correct adaptors as needed

Note: the above steps are complete to stream live to FB or YouTube (use a third party app for YouTube), without titles or graphics.
  4. CameraFi Live app on smartphone connected to Castr account
    • CameraFi must have previously been connected to Castr (both require subscription), and Castr to the Collegio’s FB and YouTube accounts
    • As to Camerafi’s Stream Settings:
      • Resolution (1080p FHD; YouTube can handle this, but Facebook will reduce this to 720 HD except for “Leveled Up” gamers)
      • Quality (Customize; setting this to Medium will limit bitrate to 2.3Mbps, which can dive to as low as 500Kbps during streaming)
      • Encoding Settings (slide to around 5000K)
      • Variable Bitrate (On)
      • Camera Autofocus to Manual
    • insert into CameraFi the titles and graphics you prepared beforehand; you may also write text, or prepare a saved video to play later on; for Collegio streams, the Coat of Arms is used as logo
    • to start simulcast in FB and YouTube, click on CameraFi’s red “Go” button; to end streaming, click on the same red button
    • make sure wifi router is not near from electrical units, including speakers (which have a metal case, magnet, and electrical circuits), that affect wifi signals.

Using CameraFi to stream to Facebook Live

  • ith CameraFi you can use your smartphone to insert titles, texts, saved videos (as PIP or standalone), etc., without needing a computer
  • for instructions, see CameraFi’s website
